Photoshop CS3 for Profit: Advanced Level

Course Level: Advanced

The Photoshop learning curve has its struggles, and we are all on that journey at one level or another. This class is for the ones who have gotten past the beginner stage; past the intermediate struggle of learning the workflow and the production vitals….NOW is where the FUN and PROFITS kick in!

At a certain point, you know most of the tools, and now it’s time to play a bit and take your creativity up a notch. There is so much to be explored and created….Photoshop has LEVELS of creative plateaus that we have not even touched (profit centers and products that our clients are waiting to see)!

Then there’s the profitability….well, you know when you were learning, the hourly wage you were making on those first few composite albums was embarrassing! But after you are in the swing of things, you can start getting into gear and really jam! NOW is the time to put the turbo in the action and start making some real profits with your Photoshop time and creativity!

With an intense focus on Efficiency, we will create an organizational space to be productive and creative without getting bogged down by mechanics. Flexibility and creativity go hand in hand when we design, so we will learn ways to work on files that allow us the freedom to create with all our options open. Of course, once you create something fabulous, selling it over and over is the key to turning it into profits. So that brings us to Automation, which is, of course, a vital element in profitability and time management. We will get into some advanced actions and speedy templates and techniques that will make your Photoshop time seriously worth it!

Advanced techniques for layers, like layer modes and clipping groups will give us control and allow us to combine images with “impossible” blends and impact! Adjustment layers are the key to enhancing and refining your images—fast, flexible and non-destructive!

One of the most powerful tools in Photoshop is the Layer Mask. Most users barely touch the capabilities of this incredible tool! We will certainly explore the advanced masking options available for refining layouts, making precision selections and image isolations.

Along with these Phabulous Photoshop Pheatures, is a host of useful tools and techniques that you will learn to apply to make you more efficient and effective:

Suzette Allen has quickly become a well-known instructor, teaching others how to master the tools of Photoshop. After years of graphic design work and working as a retoucher at a photo lab, Suzette is quite adept at the skills needed for efficiency, creativity and great composition. Pair that with her natural teaching style, and you have a winning combination!

Suzette has been a professional portrait photographer for over 20 years and has been teaching digital imaging for over 5 years. She has been an international speaker for Photographic Conventions, as well as a teacher at many of the PPA affiliated schools. She is the recipient of the Fuji Masterpiece Award for Digital and Commercial Photographer of the Year for California in 2002. She is currently the “Photoshop Expert” on ShootSmarter.com, a resource site dedicated to helping photographers survive the Digital Dive.

Suzette is best known for her patient and down-to-earth teaching style and extensive knowledge of Photoshop with an intense focus on efficiency.

Jon Yoshinaga, Suzette Allen’s class assistant and husband, has been working with her since 2003 teaching Photoshop around the nation.

Having worked in the photographic industry for almost 30 years, as a commercial, wedding and portrait photographer, a photo instructor, as well as in the digital department of a full service professional color lab, Jon’s experience gives him the insight and understanding to help the photographers navigate their way in the new territory that “Digital” has created.

A self-proclaimed “Techno-Geek” Jon keeps the class up to speed, troubleshooting computer and camera problems as well as helping the less advanced students keep up the pace.
