A rare and exciting week with Master Photographer Tim Kelly, covering all the major topics effecting the professional portrait studio. Tim will spend approximately one and a half days on Marketing, Promotion and Branding. Nothing will be withheld. The Kelly Studio is one of the most financially successful portrait studios in the nation and most of it has to do with creating effective policies and business practices. Always mixing in one of the many slideshows and print collections he will bring to keep all the students motivated and interested. A couple of days will be focused on the aesthetic components of the fine portrait. Tim will provide an interesting study of fine art portraiture from both photographers and painters to illustrate many of the characteristics he uses and would like students to think of incorporating. Tim has long been considered the master of portrait lighting and a great deal of his time will be spent instructing the participants in all of the nuances of finely crafted studio light. As part of his normal exercise, he will photograph every or any student that would like to have a portrait made. Students, at this point, will be posing and lighting each other under his direction. This will be effectively the " hands on " portion. It is suggested that students bring samples of their work and promotional materials to be reviewed. Depending on the class size, some of this will be done before and after class schedule, so that everyone can be served.

About Tim Kelly

Tim Kelly is definitely one of the few. Celebrating forty years in professional photography, he has not only "seen it all" but has participated in the cutting edge of several of it's landmark advances. A teacher and mentor to portrait photographers for twenty years already, he had already paid his dues, having worked in nearly every specialty of the industry. Before soloing as a Portrait only artist, there were thousands of high end weddings, large scale product and advertising, NYC fashion, corporate and industrial for the very biggest companies and yes, even seniors by the thousands and undergrads by the tens of thousands. In addition to all this, Kelly has always processed, printed, retouched and finished his own work.

Today, known for his highly awarded, gallery grade portraiture, and beautiful state-of-the-art studio, he takes great pleasure in passing on as much tradition and technique as he does his knowledge of technology and business.

Kelly still makes nearly every print himself in his own lab equipped with traditional and the latest digital output gear. There are six people in his studio operation and he is currently investing in his next generation, as daughter Julia has moved into the camera room, faithful continuing the Kelly brand, while adding her own youthful variations.

Most of professional photography knows the name, the look and reputation, as Tim is one of the industries most prolific and sought after authors, and experienced educators. But, as can be expected after a long and successful career, Kelly is opting out of the photo-educational "circuit" and limiting his personal appearances and workshops to do new things for the profession. He has created his own e-commerce site where his current books and DVD's are sold worldwide everyday! There also in his "ProShop" are dozens of free downloads of sessions, articles, lighting diagrams and the like. Soon to be launched will be his "Studio Success Webinar Series" a modestly priced pay per view or subscription based LIVE continuing education. Tim is an artist who has enjoyed success in several mediums including graphic art, oil and watercolor painting, drawing and etching in addition to music and photography. He considers himself a "blessed man", having been able to sustain a great career doing the very thing he loves the most; photographic fine-art portraits.

Kelly is a Master of Photography, Photographic Craftsman, Fellow of the American Society of Photographers, Inducted: Cameracraftsmen of America, Inducted: International Society of Portrait Artists; Siena, Italy, Florida's Degree of Photographic Excellence and Service Award, Kodak Mentor Emeritus. Tim has received the Kodak Gallery Elite Award, dozens of Gallery Awards, Epcot Award, countless print awards and is a two-time recipient of "Becker Award", Florida's highest honor.
